Our History
YWAM Mombasa has its roots in the mid-1970s when a British couple, the Levers, lived on the property and began praying for God to send others to use it for His purposes.
Simultaneously, an American couple, Rode and Alexis Wilson, were led to pioneer a YWAM base in Kenya. Through prayer, Alexis received a vision of a house, which she later identified upon arriving in Mombasa, confirming God’s leading.
The mission was officially registered in 1978 and initially focused on relief work, providing clothing and food to areas around Likoni, Mombasa, Kilifi, and Shimba Hills.
Over time, YWAM Mombasa grew to become the birthplace of YWAM East Africa, with eight different bases established across the region. Today, YWAM Mombasa remains a cornerstone of transformation and a beacon of hope for future generations.
